Music Composition Workshop

On Wednesday this week, fifteen talented musicians from Year 6 (along with Year 6 musicians from four other schools) were invited to attend a Music Composition Workshop at Notting Hill and Ealing School. The children were fortunate to be able to glean musical expertise from several members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra who helped lead the workshop. In groups, they composed pieces of music that embraced the theme of our fragile planet (inspired by Greta Thunberg). Composition inspiration came from images of deserts, floods, burning Amazon rainforests, melting ice caps, hurricanes and rising sea levels. The children were amazingly focused and open to the whole creative experience. At the end of the afternoon, parents were invited to a special concert, and children performed the whole compositional piece, which was moving, powerful and inspiring.
