In Reception we have been studying “Handa’s Surprise” and “Handa’s Hen” these two books are linked to African wild animals and seven different delicious fruits. We particularly focused on the parrot, ostrich, monkey and goat along with the pineapple, guava, passion fruit, tangerine and avocado pear as these illustrate the first sounds a, p, o, t, m and g which we have already covered in our phonics lesson. Our maths focus has been on weighing objects using a balancing scale discussing which is heavier or lighter and how we think and predict something is much heavier just because it looks bigger.
During well-being week the children have enjoyed outdoor exercise, yoga and songs. We also discussed the book “Ruby’s Worry” by Tom Percival which is a reassuring and sensitive book, the perfect springboard for talking to children about sharing their hidden worries no matter how big or small they may be.
